Executive Director
Jen serves as a catalytic force and guiding hand for all projects, exhibitions, and events. With a passion for the arts, our community and New York City, Jen brings a unique focus on developing ideas into fruition. In a constant state of change, the Salt Space requires it's Executive Director to think quick on her feet, roll with the punches and solve unexpected problems on the turn of a dime.
In the last eight years Jen has worked as an art director and graphic designer at a variety of posts including a top women's fashion publication, a boutique design & advertising agency, operated a successful freelance design business, partnered with non-profits both small and large, and collaborated with a widely recognized regional film festival. Her diverse experience includes traditional print media and corporate identity, web and mobile app design, surface design for textiles, soft goods and wrapping paper, even interior design when the opportunity arises. Naturally, Jen is up for any challenge.
It is with this diverse experience, entrepreneurial spirit, and commitment to our community that Jen is able to diligently propel organizations, artists and individuals forward. Where the Salt Space serves as a springboard for those passionately pursuing their life's mission.
Social Entrepreneur, Pastor and Leadership Developer
As a Social Entrepreneur, Pastor and Leadership Developer, Aaron Coe has spent his career assessing needs that exist in a community and then working with the Church to address and meet those needs. He started One Goal Sports in 1997 as a way to “put the fun” back into children’s sports. Today One Goal has over 6000 participants in multiple locations throughout the Southeast.
In 2003 Aaron moved to New York City to work with New Hope New York, an organization that was dedicated to helping strengthen existing churches and start new ones in the wake of 9/11. He started the Leadership Journey, a leadership development organization, that trained dozens of leaders for New York City churches. He also played a role raising up leaders, partners and resources for many new churches including the one he currently serves as Founder and Lead Pastor, the Gallery Church.
In 2008 Aaron founded City Uprising as a way to “propel the church” in order to “prosper the city.” To date City Uprising has mobilized hundreds of volunteers and helped to meet some of the deepest needs faced in our cities. In 2009, as a way to maximize efforts, Aaron started SendNYC for the purpose of mobilizing and equipping people for planting churches in New York City.
Pastor for Preaching & Growth
Freddy shepherds a congregation of passionate Christ-followers as teaching pastor of The Gallery Church. With a passion for New York City and raising up leaders, Freddy will continue to train, coach and encourage church planters committed to living in the hyper-urban environment of New York City. He currently lives in the Upper West Side of Manhattan with his wife Susan, and his three children Jack (3), and twins Elliot and Lillie (1).
Strategy/Creative/Operations
Neil's unique skill set blends a passion for the creative process with an obsessive demand for flawless execution. With a level of specificity that borders on the insane, Neil never loses site of the big picture, whether high-level brand strategy or the minutia of web development. With a background in print, web, broadcast media and photography, Neil is able to craft effective solutions to virtually any challenge.
Over the last decade Neil has embraced a scattered array of challenges with large corporations, small entrepreneurial endeavors ranging from technology to architectural firms, non-profits both small and large, a widely recognized regional film festival, many musicians from jazz to punk rock, as well as working as an independent photographer in his "spare" time. All of his practical experience has lead toward a tremendously varied skill set.
Currently serving as managing director of Barnum Design, Neil is a driving force of creative leadership. He also maintains order within the regime including operations, scheduling, resource allocation, vendor relationships, and project management – whatever it takes to get the job done well.
Art Education/Family Enrichment
Leann hails from Tennessee where she attended college and received a degree in Art Education. After teaching art for 6 years, Leann and her family recently moved to New York to work with a church plant. Currently, she is a full-time mother of two and in her spare time works with Big City Story Time and her new entrepreneurial enterprise, Pop-Up Art Studio.
Exhibit Curation/Artist Liaison
Joe Garrad was born in Essex, England. Joe moved to NYC in 2006 to attend the Fashion Institute of Technology and pursue a BFA in Photography. As a visual artist Joe uses both still photography and video to create intimate, insightful portraits. Living on the Lower East Side of Manhattan, Joe can often be found wandering the streets with his 35mm Olympus Stylus. As a consumer of art, Joe enjoys the traditional mediums but is progressive and open minded, welcoming getting his mind blown.
Arts Engagement
Grace is an artist and educator in Brooklyn, NY. She loves how an encounter with artwork can invite the most interesting dialogue between strangers and friends alike. She's really good at facilitating these experiences for audiences of all ages. She designs and teaches interactive gallery and classroom activities for the MoMA and the Center for Architecture Foundation.
In the Spring of 2008, her interest in the intersections between public, private and sacred spaces for art led her to found The SALT Gallery which has since evolved into the Salt Space.
Her latest project is Pop-Up Art Studio, co-founded with artist and educator Leann Boyd, a business venture to facilitate art workshops to families and students in various alternative spaces for art to further develop the relationship between artistic practice and teaching practice.
Art Direction/Design
Susan Loyd is a designer and aspiring photographer in New York City. She’s been living in New York for 5 years and has done design work for a variety of companies, including CNBC, Citigroup, Audible and AT&T. She’s done everything from animating maps for national television to designing tattoos for friends. She’s passionate about traveling, meeting new people and creating art based on these relationships, experiences and surroundings. She can be easily distracted by anything that is shiny and loves to decorate and accessorize almost anything that will let her.
Community Engagement/Development
Motivated by a deep passion and heart for the people of NYC, Chris Mills recently relocated to New York City as a step of faith. Over the past several months he has become aware of the people that live within Manhattan and the needs that they have—both physical and spiritual. Chris has partnered with the Salt Space team in an effort to focus his ministry and outreach towards the communities that would be the most immediately effected by the events and resources that the Salt Space provides. Chris hails from Nashville, Tennessee and holds a Masters of Divinity. He has over 10 years of pastoral experience in the life of the church, prarachurch organizations, and social-work programs.
Storytelling/Filmmaking
Mickey Micklos is an independent film director here in New York City. He has directed numerous commercials, shorts and is currently working on a new feature film. He has worked for The Discovery Channel, Apple, Voila Cinematic and various Tv commercial production companies. His cinematic eye for storytelling and his extensive background in theater, video, photography, writing and music shape his distinct style. He is currently working on a feature length film in collaboration with top writers and investors in New York City that plans to be finished in 2011. Recently he has been redefining storytelling and media on a world-wide scale with his "ESM Project" that focuses on the unique story that every person has to tell.
Filmmaking is about a feeling, its about never forgetting that movies take us on a journey inside of our deepest heart pits!
Strategic Planning/Project Management
Hannah Taddeo is a graduate of the Cleveland Institute of Art with a BFA in Biomedical Illustration. She has worked for three years as a freelance artist and has had the honor of showing her work at various prestigious institutions such as University Hospitals Harrington-McLaughlin Heart & Vascular Institute, the Cleveland Botanical Gardens, Cuyahoga County Community College, and the Cleveland Institute of Art, as well as numerous private collections. She blends her passion for art with her foundation in science and technology and continues to explore the possibilities of new media that can be applied to the didactic formalities of traditional medical and natural science illustration.
