UNICEF has estimated that there are approximately 210 million orphans worldwide. In Moldova, the poorest country in Europe, there are thousands of children that grow up in institutions, deprived of family care.

This winter, a team of ten Americans traveled throughout Moldova visiting orphanages, delivering Christmas gifts, and documenting the life stories of over 250 children. Our very own Susan Loyd spent her Christmas and New Years holiday in Moldova. While there she spent much of her time photographing the children and interviewing them to collect this information for Justice and Mercy International. This documentation is then used to help find financial sponsors for each of the children.
Upon returning to New York, Susan was inspired to pull together all of the information she had collected and present it in a beautiful exhibition at the Salt Space. With each portrait, the child's interview was displayed. Some long and detailed. Others only three words. Our favorite being a from young girl ... "I like sheep." The highlight of the installation was a wall of brightly colored construction paper with each sheet filled by one child's drawing.

Justice and Mercy International (JMI) is a faith-based, non-profit organization that exists to change lives by confronting global injustice. JMI confronts global crises through the development of partnerships and programs that connect people with tangible ways to change lives.
We're pleased to announce that this exhibition is currently traveling to Nashville, TN to be displayed in LifeWay's corporate headquarters.
